In 1963, Caterpillar began operations in Japan through a joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Today, our Japan team leads the development hydraulic excavators for Caterpillar. The Akashi facility delivers hydraulic excavator technologies to our local and global customers.
Cat Financial also has a presence in region to support our Japanese customers.

The Caterpillar Foundation has continued to invest in local not-for-profit organizations in Japan to improve basic human needs, promote environmental awareness and enhance education in schools.
In 2018, the Caterpillar Foundation invested in Second Harvest Japan. The investment provides meals to those in need, care packages and mobile pantries.
