The Future Is Bright Yellow

September 8, 2025

As Caterpillar celebrates 100 years, we’re honoring the hard work of our customers and looking toward a second century full of possibilities.

For those who rely on our equipment and services, the future is all about the work ahead—and they trust us to provide solutions that address their challenges, big and small. Our commitment to innovation means we’re always seeking new ways to help our customers work smarter, safer and more efficiently. Here’s a quick look at what’s next.

A New Generation of Power

Caterpillar’s iconic yellow machines have been a staple on construction sites since 1931. Today, we’re helping our customers tackle a generational challenge: the transition to a lower-carbon future.

Our new battery electric machine prototypes—including mini and medium excavators and compact and medium wheel loaders—can run for a full day on a single charge with zero exhaust emissions. Designed to be scalable and recyclable, the battery prototypes inside these machines will also be available to power equipment beyond our own, opening doors to broader electrification.

Mining Better, Together

Mining plays a vital role in the energy transition, and we’re working with our customers to help make mining smarter and safer with solutions like battery electric machines and autonomous equipment.

Our Cat MineStar technology suite allows surface and underground miners to operate machines remotely, track performance in real time and even detect potential collisions before they happen. And new updates, like expanded Terrain Payload Management, help optimize operations and improve efficiency.

An Evolution at Sea

For decades, Caterpillar engines have set the standard for power and efficiency in the marine industry. Now, our new methanol dual-fuel Cat® 3500E engines offer the same performance and reliability while reducing emissions. Fuel flexibility can help marine operations make progress toward their sustainability goals without investing in expensive new equipment or retrofits.

We're also working to advance the use of autonomous vessels through the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency’s “No Manning Required Ship” project. Our marine engines meet the strenuous requirements to operate at sea for up to a year without human intervention — a way to protect crews from dangerous sea environments.
