First manufactured in 1921, the Holt 2 Ton Tractor, despite weighing in at over 5,000 pounds, was considered quite small at that time. It was designed to meet the needs of farmers operating in smaller spaces, like orchards and vineyards across California.
This tractor was extremely popular and was produced until 1925. Once the Caterpillar Tractor Co. was started, Caterpillar tweaked the design, and continued making similar tractors under the name of the Caterpillar 2-Ton tractor until 1928. Eventually, the smaller Caterpillar Twenty would replace it in the line-up.
