Steph Downing is a senior vice president of Caterpillar Inc, responsible for Americas Distribution & Service Division, providing governance and administration of Cat® dealers across the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Effective February 2024, Steph additionally took responsibility for Global Service, which enables service success for both dealers and customers.
Steph joined Perkins Engines, a Caterpillar subsidiary, in 1993, holding numerous positions in manufacturing operations, product support, and product development. In 2002, he transitioned to Caterpillar in the U.S., where he held multiple roles in sales and marketing with increasing responsibilities within Cat Reman and On-Highway Truck Engine business units. In 2013, he was appointed district manager and completed assignments in the southeastern U.S. and northern Europe, where he worked closely with dealers to build distribution system capabilities. In 2019, he was appointed vice president of the Distribution Services Division for the Americas, responsible for the Eastern region of the U.S. In 2022, the Caterpillar board of directors named Steph senior vice president of the Americas Distribution & Service Division (ADSD).
A native of England, Steph graduated from Telford College with a higher national certificate in mechanical engineering and completed a post-graduate diploma in management studies at Wolverhampton University. He also completed Management for the 21st Century from Bradley University, the LEAD Executive Development Program from the Disney Institute and Caterpillar’s Executive Leadership Development Program in partnership with Duke University.
