Steph Downing is a senior vice president of Caterpillar Inc. with responsibility for Americas Distribution, providing governance and administration of Cat® dealers across the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
Steph joined Perkins Engines, a Caterpillar subsidiary, in 1993, where he held numerous positions in manufacturing operations, product support and product development. In 2002, he transitioned to Caterpillar in the U.S., where he held numerous roles in sales and marketing with increasing responsibilities within Cat Reman and On-Highway Truck Engine business units. In 2013, he was appointed district manager and completed assignments in the southeastern U.S. and northern Europe, where he worked closely with dealers to build distribution system capabilities. In 2019, he was appointed vice president in the distribution services division for the Americas, with responsibility for the eastern region of the U.S. In 2022, the Caterpillar Board of Directors named Steph vice president of Americas Distribution Services Division (ADSD).
A native of England, Steph graduated from Telford College with a higher national certificate in Mechanical Engineering and completed a post-graduate diploma in Management Studies at Wolverhampton University. He also completed the Caterpillar Executive Leadership Program with Duke University Graduate School of Business in 2021.
