John Shanahan

John Shanahan is a senior vice president of Caterpillar Inc., responsible for the Resource Industries Sales, Services and Technology (RISST) Division. In this role, he oversees the delivery of the right solutions at the right time to mining, heavy construction, quarry and aggregate customers. By aligning machines, aftermarket support, digital solutions and technology, RISST helps customers improve productivity, reduce costs and operate more safely and sustainably.

Shanahan has nearly 30 years of leadership experience in technical, commercial and service-focused industries. Most recently, he served as senior vice president within Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division. Shanahan has served in progressive leadership roles within the Power & Energy and Resource Industries segments, focused on aftermarket and services delivery business models across Caterpillar.

Shanahan has a bachelor’s degree in marine engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and a master’s in business administration from Purdue University.
