797 Mining Truck

1998

This behemoth wasn’t named “The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois” for no reason. In 1998, Caterpillar revealed the world’s largest mechanically driven mining truck — the 797. With wheels more than double the height of two average-sized men and a variety of attachments for maximum productivity, the 797 has been a reliable workhorse for the mining industry.

The original 797 has worked more than 130,000 hours and counting.

The 797F model weighs 1,375,000 lb, or 623,690 kg.

The 797F model has a nominal rated payload of 400 tons (U.S.), or 363 metric tons.
