Around the world, the need for reliable and safe healthcare occurs at any time of day.
No one knows this better than Dr. Grace Shaban, a medic at a rural health center in Msongozi, Tanzania, who has used the flashlight app on her mobile phone to assist birthing mothers after dark due to lack of power at the health center.

Today, Dr. Grace’s health center, along with dozens of other health facilities in the sub-Saharan region of Africa, has reliable electricity thanks to solar systems provided by the USAID-funded Power Africa Health Electrification and Telecommunications Alliance (HETA) and its partners – including Caterpillar Inc.
This work is part of a broader philanthropic initiative supported by Caterpillar Inc. and its Electric Power Division. The initiative focuses on electrification efforts across Africa and India, leveraging our technology to design an ecosystem that provides renewable energy in underserved communities.
"By bringing reliable power to medical facilities, we are helping create a higher standard of living where people and communities can thrive," said Electric Power Senior Vice President Jaime Mineart. "Our commitment to providing reliable power creates access to better education, healthcare, food, and safer, more productive communities—truly creating a better and more sustainable world.”
