Three Women Rewriting Their Narrative

March 21, 2024

Neema, Chaha and Saci. Three women of the many women who are rewriting their narrative thanks to the Nomi Network.

This Women's History Month, we celebrate Caterpillar Foundation grant recipient, Nomi Network, dedicated to empowering women and girls through economic freedom.

Nomi Network addresses the systemic barriers that women and girls face, particularly in regions affected by poverty and exploitation. These programs focus on building pathways to safe employment, fostering economic stability and advocating to end human trafficking.

In regions like Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal in India, Nomi Network's Workforce Development Programs offer women comprehensive training in life, workforce, and technical skills, to secure sustainable employment. The organization also offers an Adolescent Girls Empowerment Program that provides youth with a safe space to learn and become advocates for change in their communities.

Participants like Neema, who was orphaned at a young age and faced abuse and hardship, exemplify resilience and determination. She completed her training with Nomi Network and now works as a seamstress, building a better future for her family and children.

Neema's story is one of many that highlight the impact of support programs. From Chaha, who started her own farming business, to Saci, who found meaningful employment and now helps others access job opportunities, these women and girls are rewriting their narratives and paving a new path for their futures.

The Caterpillar Foundation’s support of Nomi Network extends beyond India. In Dallas County, Texas, Nomi Network has engaged with local organizations to provide comprehensive support and job readiness training to vulnerable girls emerging from tragic situations.

"Inspired by the incredible journeys of Neema, Chaha, Saci, and countless others, we are reminded that empowerment knows no bounds. Through initiatives like those led by Nomi Network, we can create tangible pathways to opportunity and foster a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive and lead with dignity," said Asha Varghese, President of the Caterpillar Foundation.

The resilience and determination of these women and girls underscore the importance of programs like those offered by Nomi Network. By providing access and economic opportunities, women and girls can break free from cycles of poverty and exploitation and build brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
