Helping Those Affected by Hurricane Helene

October 4, 2024

Hurricane Helene made landfall in the United States on September 26 with effects that were felt for 800 miles. The states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia have experienced storm surges, flooding, winds, and power and telecommunications outages.

While it may take weeks or months to determine the full impact of Hurricane Helene's devastation, we know many people have been impacted and need support.

HOW CATERPILLAR FOUNDATION IS HELPING

The Caterpillar Foundation will provide disaster support in three phases:

  1. Preparedness – The Caterpillar Foundation is a member of the Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP). This $1 million annual global investment helps provide a funding base, allowing the Red Cross to preposition supplies before a disaster strikes, including training staff during nonpeak times, developing innovative technology, and deploying critical resources during a crisis. The Red Cross has deployed more than 850 Red Cross responders to support feeding needs, emergency response and shelters in those areas impacted by Hurricane Helene.
  2. Response – The Caterpillar Foundation communicates with local stakeholders, including the Cat® Dealer global network, to enable local support, such as on-the-ground resources. Several Cat® Dealers are currently assisting in disaster response. In addition, Caterpillar employee, retiree and dealer employee contributions to the American Red Cross are eligible for matching by the Caterpillar Foundation.
  3. Recovery – The Caterpillar Foundation will donate $350,000 to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to support local charities to help families and communities throughout the storm’s path as they work to rebuild and recover through their Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund.
