Our customers mine materials for technology that connects people across the globe: cell phones, fiber optics and various forms of digital communication. Using a host of tools, we can integrate digital technologies, making it possible for Cat® equipment to communicate.
In 2021, Sandfire Resources and Perenti Group’s African Mining Services (AMS) planned to develop a long-life copper production hub in the Kalahari Copper Belt.
This required the creation of the Motheo Copper Mine, which would generate large quantities of copper, create jobs and solidify Sandfire’s long-term growth plans in Botswana.
AMS turned to Cat® MineStar™, the mining industry’s most comprehensive, integrated suite of technology.
We leaned on the knowledge and capabilities of our Cat Job Site Solutions team and conducted site observations, interviews, education and discussions.
AMS selected a fleet of Cat trucks provided by Cat dealer Barloworld Equipment to handle hauling duties.
An initial study projected annual production of high-quality, highly recyclable copper concentrate at 3.2 million tonnes. Construction commenced in 2021, creating around 1,000 jobs from the outset.
