Rod Shurman is a vice president of Caterpillar Inc. with responsibility for the Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division (COGMD). This division has worldwide responsibility for business-to-business service offerings for the oil and gas and marine industries. This global organization also includes sales and product support of reciprocating engines in the oil and gas industry; manufacturing, sales and product support of pressure pumping solutions for the oil and gas industry; sales and product support of medium and high-speed marine diesel engines, generator sets and auxiliary engines. The oil & gas and marine portfolio includes Cat®, SPM Oil & Gas and MaK branded products which are distributed through a global network of Cat dealers, SPM Oil & Gas distribution centers and OEMs.
Previously, Rod was the general manager for the Caterpillar Oil & Gas business and provided leadership to marketing, sales, aftermarket service, product support and product development for diesel and natural gas engines, generator sets, mechanical transmissions and pressure pumps distributed under the Cat brand for oil and gas applications. While serving as general manager, Rod was integral in the creation of the oil and gas services business and supporting strategy that aligns with the enterprise.
Shurman joined Caterpillar in 1997 and has engineering, service and operations experience and was a product manager in large power systems. In addition, he has commercial experience, including direct customer engagement and dealer distribution capabilities. Prior to Caterpillar, Shurman worked for Cummins with a focus on engineering and service experience. Shurman graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He also completed Caterpillar’s flagship executive leadership program, Powering the Future, conducted by Stanford University specifically for Caterpillar leaders.
