The Chairman's Sustainability Awards, awarded by Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman, recognize teams and individuals who demonstrate our mission of sustainable progress and help us achieve our 2020 Sustainability Goals. The 2012 Chairman's Sustainability Award winners were announced at the Leadership Summit. These goals extend beyond traditional safety and environmental improvements to capture market driven innovation that ties our business growth directly to the development of safer and more sustainable products, services and solutions for the many markets we serve. For 2012, Job Site Solutions Through Fleet Managed Solutions and Wuxi R&D Center Facility Expansion were honored with the awards.
The Product/Service/Solution Sustainability Award recognizes the product, service or solution that best delivers excellence in the three aspects of sustainability - economic, environmental and social performance - for our business and our customers. The winner in this category was Mining Sales & Support Division's Job Site Solutions Through Fleet Managed Solutions. The Job Site Solutions team works directly with customers and Cat® Dealers to provide Cat solutions that deliver significant improvements in fuel consumption, safety, productivity and emissions benefits.
The Process Sustainability Award recognizes operational or business process excellence - including collaboration with dealers, customers and suppliers - that best demonstrates pursuit of sustainability. The winner in this category was Product Development & Global Technology Division's Wuxi R&D Center Facility Expansion. Successfully implementing Phases II & III following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold Certification for new construction, the Wuxi R&D Center facility expansion exceeded all design, cost, quality and timeline goals while maintaining leadership in sustainability.
The Chairman's Health & Safety Award was established in 1959 by Louis Neuhmiller and represents our oldest executive office recognition. The annual performance and project award competitions encourage facilities to improve their safety performance and introduce innovative injury and illness prevention solutions.
The Environmental Excellence Award was established in 1995, and represents Caterpillar's commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner. This annual project award competition encourages facilities to embark in forward-thinking approaches to creating excellence in environmental stewardship.
The Similar Exposure Group Award, established in 2007, highlights facilities that exhibit the exceptional ability to anticipate, recognize evaluate and control employee exposure hazards. This annual project award competition recognizes the comprehensive evaluation of industrial hygiene risks and creative solutions to eliminate and reduce workplace exposures to chemical, physical and biological agents.
The Ergonomic project Awards project award competition was established in 2008, to recognize and encourage the development of innovative ergonomics solutions and education in the workplace.
The Hero's Award recognizes employees and Caterpillar affiliates who courageously intervene to prevent a safety incident from occurring on Caterpillar property or while traveling on business. The program encourages individuals to be current on their First Aid and CPR training and to intervene to protect the health and safety of others when appropriate.
The Facility of Distinction award recognizes facilities and offices that exceed annual enterprise safety targets.
The Safety Star recognition program acknowledges Caterpillar employees and affiliates who have contributed in a significant way to their business unit's or facility's safety initiative.
The Ergo Medal is a recognition program to acknowledge Caterpillar employees and affiliates who have contributed in a significant way to their business unit's or facility's ergonomics initiative.
