Seventy-five employees put their best foot forward when they took part in a fun run challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The 5km challenge, held on the same day as the Perkins sponsored Perkins Great Eastern Run reached its 100-day countdown, took place around the company's site in Eastfield, Peterborough. The grounds around the site were transformed for the road race, with volunteer marshals and first aiders helping to ensure the runners safety as they made their way around the 5km course.
The race, which was won by pricing and segmentation manager Tom Rebbitt, in 17 minutes 45 seconds, helped raise around £2,000 to help fund Macmillan Cancer Support's ongoing work. This latest event took the total raised by Perkins employees in 2011 for Macmillan Cancer Support, the company's charity of the year, to around £20,000.
"I'm so proud of the commitment shown by our employees," said Perkins president Gwenne Henricks, moments after starting the inaugural race. "It's wonderful to see such active support for our charity of the year partner; support which has seen us successfully reach our mid year fundraising target. Well done and thank you to everyone who has supported the fun run."
Elspeth Dando, Macmillan Cancer Support's area fundraising manager Cambridgeshire & Bedfordshire added: "It was a great evening, with a lovely atmosphere, and fantastic to see so much support for the event and for Macmillan."
