Position: Group/Regional HR Director
Division: Human Services Division
1. How did your career bring you to Caterpillar and why was Caterpillar the best employer for you?
I joined Caterpillar full time in 1997 as part of the HR team for the Building Construction Products division in North Carolina. Prior to Caterpillar, I worked for several years in a non-profit organization with responsibilities for event planning, fundraising, marketing and public relations. Leading up to my employment with Caterpillar, I also worked for a private engineering firm with responsibilities for marketing and public relations.
In 2007, I transferred to the Caterpillar Japan team, where as Managing Director, I helped lead the integration of an acquisition.
I have degrees in journalism and communications and an MBA from University of Illinois. I recently completed Digging Deep, Caterpillar's executive leadership program aligned with Stanford University. With a father (Air Force) and spouse (Army) as veterans of the military, I have significant respect and gratitude for the men and women who serve their countries.
2. What are your current roles and responsibilities at Caterpillar?
My current responsibilities include HR for the division, Global Corporate HR, Global Labor Relations, North America Compensation + Benefits, recruiting and shared services, global HR succession planning, and Group HR director for the Americas and six divisions that comprise the Resource Industries organization.
3. From your perspective, how and why do you believe that Caterpillar would benefit from hiring military veterans into the company?
Regardless of whether it's a short-term or long-term assignment, serving in the military provides future employees with unique skills and capabilities. From discipline, values and leadership to honed skills in specific areas, these men and women come to the company ready to work and apply those capabilities to our industry, which can be a significant asset to Caterpillar.
4. What would you say to the veteran candidate pool to encourage them to choose Caterpillar as their employer of choice?
Caterpillar offers tremendous opportunity for employees to apply their capabilities in diverse ways around the world…in a way, similar to the military. It's the kind of company that can provide a lifetime of challenges, development and excitement to the employee ready to sign on.
