Global Government & Corporate Affairs Uses Washington, D.C., Office to Strengthen International Ties

The Washington, D.C., office of Caterpillar Inc. recently had the honor to host Meridian International's "Meridian Downtown" monthly speaker series, which featured Colombian Ambassador to the United States Carlos Urrutia.

Meridian International is a Washington-based institution that operates a number of programs to connect U.S. and foreign governments with the private sector. The "Meridian Downtown" monthly series is designed to give members of Meridian's Corporate Council the opportunity to meet and discuss current business issues with ambassadors and other senior members of the diplomatic community.

In his remarks, Ambassador Urrutia praised Caterpillar's support for the 2011 U.S. Colombia Free Trade Agreement, which eliminated tariffs on all Caterpillar products entering Colombia.

"It was a worthwhile event," said Caterpillar Global Governmental Affairs Director Bill Lane. "What made it special was that officials like Ambassador Urrutia and 30 top Washington-based business leaders were truly excited to visit Caterpillar's Washington offices. As one participant said, 'Caterpillar is just a class act.'"

"This is why we are in Washington - to build and strengthen relationships with officials like Ambassador Urrutia. When we can take the lead on events like this, it makes Caterpillar all the more memorable," said Lane.
