Earth Day events were hosted throughout the Caterpillar enterprise, and many Caterpillar employees were involved in events to help the Earth by receiving trees to plant or learning how to be more sustainable.
Throughout Illinois, Caterpillar employees had the opportunity to receive free trees from Living Lands & Waters. The tree giveaway is an annual event to help LL&W's MillionTrees Project. The projected was initiated in 2007, and 2013 marks the 500,000th tree handout. The project aims to plant 1 million new trees. Four different types of oak trees were handed out.
LL&W is a 501(c)3 environmental organization with a mission to protect, restore and preserve the natural environment of the nations' major rivers and their watersheds. The Caterpillar Foundation has made investments with LL&W for more than 13 years.
In addition, the Caterpillar Foundation invests in other environmental organizations such as The Nature Conservancy Great Rivers Partnership, World Resources Institute, The Land Trust Alliance, Ducks Unlimited, Tropical Forest Foundation and more.
Across the country, Holt Cat, the Cat® equipment engine dealer for South, Central, North and North East Texas, displayed the Cat 336E H Hybrid Excavator at Earth Day Dallas. The innovative 336 E H hydraulic hybrid swing system captures and reuses the excavator's swing brake energy to enable substantial fuel savings while providing the same power and productivity of standard models.
Holt Cat, a second-year sponsor and participant in Earth Day Dallas, has made a commitment to provide solutions to customers that dramatically reduce environmental impact in addition to also minimizing owning and operating costs.
