On September 12, the Aurora, Ill., facility welcomed Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman and Cat® dealer Empire to a customer appreciation event for Caterpillar’s first 988K Large Wheel Loader (LWL) customer, Superstition Crushing. The event also marked the 50th Anniversary of the 988 LWL, with the K-series representing the seventh-generation.
Aurora invited Superstition Crushing to the factory where their new machine was built, allowing them to meet employees and share in the immense pride and dedication that made the 988 LWL milestone possible. During the event, Oberhelman thanked employees and the customer for making this opportunity possible, while also acknowledging Caterpillar employees at facilities around the world that put their best work into our products every day. Oberhelman also presented the customer with keys to the new 988 – delivered right off the assembly line.
Integrated Manufacturing Operations Division (IMOD) General Manager Ken Knight spoke about Aurora’s journey of manufacturing excellence and the importance of delivering quality products to our customers. LWL Product Manager Kurt Norris also discussed the significance of teaming with customers to deliver the best products, recognizing the collaboration and teamwork that resulted in launching the 988 on time and under budget – while also achieving the best quality.
