Caterpillar's partnership with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) started in 1999 and has established a strong relationship led by the U.S. Talent Solutions Team. Over the past few years, we have developed a lasting partnership with NSBE at the national, regional and local levels in support of our strategy to attract the Best Team and develop an inclusive culture.
In March, Caterpillar participated in the 39th annual national convention with 27 recruiters, Caterpillar leaders and a skid steer loader provided by Cat® Dealer MacAllister. The event, held in Indianapolis, Ind., featured an executive roundtable represented by Dave Bozeman, Caterpillar senior vice president. The roundtable, hosted by Caterpillar, ensured our executive and senior leaders had the opportunity to see results of our company's investments in NSBE and network with peers. Latasha Gillespie, Global Diversity & Inclusion director, hosted an exciting and interactive workshop about "The Power of And" - how diversity and inclusion are not exclusive and organizations need both to make a positive impact. This year's relationship and planning events were led by Africa Booth and Andy Hendrix as Caterpillar's Board of Corporate Affiliate (BCA) representatives responsible for Caterpillar's partnership with the organization.
According to Victor Asante, America's regional recruiting manager, "We had a strong presence this year and that allowed our team to focus on strengthening our employment brand and influencing approximately 2,000 of the 6,000-plus student and professional attendees in engineering and technical fields during the career fair."
Throughout the U.S, Caterpillar employees are active members of NSBE through the organization's numerous professional alumni chapters. During this year's event, several Caterpillar employees received awards for local professional chapter efforts including:
Solar Turbines employees involved in the San Diego NSBE Chapter for 2013 Global Chapter of the Year and Global Pre-College Initiative Program of the Year.
Employees involved in the Central Illinois NSBE Chapter for Region IV Pre-College Initiative Program of the Year.
Xavier Horton, current president of the Central Illinois NSBE Chapter and founder/co-advisor of the Central IL NSBE Jr. Chapter, was recognized as Region IV Alumni Member of the Year for his contributions in the mentorship of collegiate NSBE members.
Keith Boswell, commercial manager of Diversified Products, received a prestigious Resolution for his contributions with the organization while participating in the first four National Conventions.
