Caterpillar Peterlee and Hartlepool College of Further Education have established a great partnership in recent years, delivering apprenticeships and specialist training while supporting each other and key events such as open days, learning days and awards ceremonies.
Caterpillar Peterlee has won the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) Large Employer category (North East) Apprenticeship Company of the Year Award for the last two years, so it was no surprise that the facility agreed to help out with two recent international training programs delivered in partnership with Roxby Training. The training was partly organized by Caterpillar Apprenticeship Manager, Fred Felton.
Delegates enjoyed several days in the training facility in Peterlee at the Learning Centre of Light. Delegates were taken on factory tours, given specialist instruction in lean manufacturing, just-in-time production and Kanban Procurement. In return, the college was more than happy to make a worthwhile contribution back to Caterpillar and donated textbooks to help kick-start the new technical library at the Learning Centre of Light.
The library and reading list were the idea of Training Manager Carl Robb, which included an impressive list of well-known business and engineering texts, in addition to some specialist manufacturing reading.
Robb said of the donation: "Development of our employees is fundamental to the success of the organization, and it's refreshing to work with a college like Hartlepool, who shares our enthusiasm for learning. The library at Caterpillar will support more than 1,000 colleagues, and I am pleased that the Hartlepool College have helped us start building our own library."
