Global Governmental Affairs Director Bill Lane recently represented Caterpillar at the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition's (USGLC) annual conference. The event gathered leaders from government, military and the business community to discuss international development and diplomacy programs vitally important for America's economic future, national security and global influence.
As co-president of the U.S. Global Leadership Council (USGLC), Lane helped launch the organization's new Smart Power Innovations campaign, a movement highlighting how businesses and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are working with one another and with government in innovative ways to make the smart power tools for future development.
The launch featured remarks from many senior-ranking U.S. officials—including U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Michael Froman, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim and U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew—as well as a short campaign video where Lane discussed how America can lead on the global stage and tackle some of the toughest global problems.
"From health and nutrition to safety and security, true smart power innovators tackle the big problems we face and demonstrate our finest values as Americans," Lane said. "Global development is not just about doing good, it's essential for our national and economic security.
"Plus, I had the pleasure of filming a video with the future U.S. leaders of 2040," he added with a wink.
