Caterpillar Commemorates 100 Years in Russia

In May 1913, the Holt Caterpillar track-type tractor was exhibited in the St. Petersburg IV Auto Show under the patronage of Czar Nikolai II. The Auto Show was organized in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty and the Holt Caterpillar track-type tractor won all first-prize gold medals in the plowing contest.

Since then, Cat machines and equipment have been part of the Russian industrial landscape of the Russian Empire, later the U.S.S.R. and now the Russian Federation. Cat machines are important for the Russian economy as they are helping to make progress possible. Our machines have always been made tough, durable and reliable. As in the past, they are continuing to develop infrastructure, natural resources, power industries and communities.

Today, our presence in Russia and the C.I.S. (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries is larger than ever, with more than 700 employees and five offices in Russia and Kazakhstan, and a fully-owned Caterpillar manufacturing facility in the small town of Tosno near St. Petersburg, Russia. Twenty dealer organizations employing approximately 5,300 personnel cover the Russian and C.I.S. territories, delivering Cat machines and services to even the most remote parts of Russia and the C.I.S. There are approximately 27,000 Cat machines and 14,000 units of power systems equipment in Russia and the C.I.S. countries. Russia and C.I.S. are among the most dynamic developing territories for Caterpillar.

Emphasizing the importance of long-standing and good customer relations for Caterpillar, Group President Stu Levenick said at the press conference organized in Moscow to commemorate this important milestone in Caterpillar’s history on May 15, 2013: “We are proud of our long history of providing customers in Russia and all of Eurasia with products and services that have earned the reputation of the best lifetime value. Together with our 20 dealers in the region, we are committed to Russia and have made substantial investments to support this growing market. Our customers know they can count on Caterpillar and our dealers to provide solutions to their unique challenges. We look forward to our next 100 years of working together to serve our customers as they build the future in Russia and the C.I.S.”
