Fitness and camaraderie trumped unseasonably cold weather during the annual JPMorgan Corporate Challenge in downtown Chicago.
A record 333 Caterpillar employees from 29 facilities joined the Cat Crew team for a chilly 3.5-mile road race on May 23. The annual Chicago run/walk brings in teams from more than 600 global companies.
The Corporate Challenge conducts races in cities across the world, with more than 250,000 combined participants each year. The Cat Crew has attended the Chicago event since 1985.
"Events that focus on wellness and team building create a common bond between people who might not interact on a normal basis," said Cat Crew member and South Milwaukee Site Coordinator Corrie Schroeder. "This year South Milwaukee partnered with the Oak Creek campus and brought 30 participants to the Corporate Challenge. It's a great way to network and meet employees from across the country."
The Cat Crew's best 2013 male and female finishers were Jeff Johnson (19:22) from LaGrange and Allison Arndt (20:57) from South Milwaukee.
"Congratulations and thanks to the entire team," said Cat Crew Event Co-Coordinator Amy Manwaring. "We had a record turnout this year, which means Caterpillar was very well represented. Special thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this event happen, including the Caterpillar Corporate Wellness Services team members who passed out water, served as site coordinators and provided fitness expertise."
The first Corporate Challenge took place 37 years ago in New York City. Today, the event spans seven countries and five continents, including races in China and South Africa. The annual outings help raise needed funds for various charities in participating cities.
