Cat® 6018 Hydraulic Mining Shovel delivered to Benxi Steel

On November 28, 2013, the Benxi Steel – Cat® 6018 Hydraulic Mining Shovel Delivery Ceremony was successfully held in Benxi, Liaoning Province. One Cat 6018, also the first hydraulic mining shovel with electrical drive in China, was officially delivered to Benxi Steel Waitoushan Mine by Donald Hou, sales general manager, Caterpillar Global Mining Greater China and Korea. A second Cat 6018 involved in the same contract will also be delivered at an arranged time. This deal marked another success of Cat hydraulic mining shovels in the Chinese market.

Benxi Steel Group Corporation, the largest state-owned group in Liaoning Province, owns many iron mines including the largest open pit mine in Asia - NanFen Open Pit Iron Mine. Among all the mining equipment that is running at the mines, several dozen units are Cat products, such as hydraulic mining shovels, rope shovels, mining trucks, track-type tractor/wheel dozers, motor graders, etc. The production of Benxi Steel reaches 20 million tonnes of iron ore every year.

From removing overburden to loading haul trucks, hydraulic shovels have proven success across mining applications. Caterpillar builds the largest hydraulic mining shovels in the world. More than 2,000 units have been delivered to customers worldwide since 1980. In the Chinese market, the Cat 6018 is a real star among Cat loading tools. Its last deal was one unit delivered to Xinjiang Qing’an during the 15th China Coal & Mining Expo.

During the ceremony, Donald Hou presented a large key model to Li Bin, Waitoushan Iron Mine manager. Vice President of Benxi Steel Group Mining Corporation, Liu Xizhi, expressed satisfaction with the long-term cooperation with Caterpillar. Li Bin fully recognized the safety level and great performance of Cat equipment.

“Our mission,” Hou concluded in his speech, “is to provide the best solution to our mining customers by helping them maximize production and achieve lowest cost-per-ton and highest mining safety level.”
