Efficiency and Affordability in Egypt
Near the banks of the Nile River, and just outside the city of Cairo near Beni Suef, Egypt, the construction of more than 10,000 greenhouses is under way. Starting in July 2019, and with a two-year timeline, completion is planned for 2021. The greenhouses will cover more than 63,000 acres.
The goal for this location is to produce 1.5 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables annually, which will help reduce the need to import produce and increase agricultural exports. “This is a relatively new method of agriculture here as we look to develop vertical agriculture, rather than horizontal agriculture,” added Seif ELDin Rady, On-Site Hose Solutions with Cat® dealer Mantrac Egypt.
To service the more than 200 machines on site, Cat® dealer Mantrac has installed a remote service location. Its main feature is a hose and coupling workshop. “We call it a Hose Assembly Mobile Workshop, or HAMW,” said Will Newbery, Hydraulics Aftermarket Services Consultant for Caterpillar. “It’s an on-site solution aimed at building three to five hose and coupling groups per day.”
