Biggest Hydraulic Mining Shovel Delivered to Vietnam

July 24, 2017

Soaring approximately two stories tall—6.5m height, 10m length and 230 tons weight – the 6020B Hydraulic Mining Shovel (HMS) is now the largest HMS in Vietnam. This Cat 6020B was delivered to the Vietnamese customer Vinacomin for use in the Deo Nai Coal Mine, an open pit mine located in the Quang Ninh Province of Vietnam and part of Vinacomin.  The operation’s fleet consists of over 100 machines—over 50 percent Cat.

Deo Nai purchased the 6020B HMS to replace smaller rope shovels. Since it was the first hydraulic mining shovel for Vinacomin, Caterpillar and Cat dealer Phu Thai Cat (PTC) teamed up to ensure the Deo Nai team had the necessary training to gain maximum value from the machine. The team spent time with the customer providing service and operator training to optimize the machine’s cost per bank cubic meter (BCM).

We’re excited to see the machine at work at the jobsite!

Fast Fact: The 6020B was designed based on voice of the customer. In fact, customers were invited to help design it. Their top three priorities? Make it Safe, Keep it Simple and Make it Reliable.

Dealer Support: Caterpillar, local Cat Dealer Phu Thai (PTC) and Vinacomin have over 20 years of relationship. PTC is the sole authorized Caterpillar dealer in Vietnam.
