June is a milestone month for Caterpillar's Building Construction Products (BCP) plant in Athens, Georgia. This month it celebrated shipping 30,000 machines since opening the doors about four years ago. The facility – with its workforce of about 1,400 – also welcomed Caterpillar's Board of Directors, Executive Office and shareholders for Caterpillar's annual shareholder meeting. In his remarks during that meeting, Jim Umpleby told the crowd more about the plant that produces mini excavators and small track-type tractors and discussed how Caterpillar is as solid as the iron of our machines. Read his complete remarks here.
The board and executives toured the facility that makes products bound for road construction, landscaping, irrigation projects and more. Thirty-two percent of the shipments from this facility are exported to 68 countries. Employees on the assembly and fabrication lines were proud to show off the part they play in building products that build a better world. Want to know more about one of Caterpillar's newest plants?
