The Service Technician of tomorrow being developed today

There is a high expectation for dealer service technicians on-site to provide customers a complete one-stop-shop service. Cat® dealers are now being challenged to provide the same level of support and services on technology components as they do for machines.

To address the need of strong technology support at Cat dealers, Caterpillar Global Mining has been working closely with distribution services, helping to ensure that Cat dealers are including mining technology curriculum within their training and development programs. For the first time in the 14-year history of such programs, a mining technology module has been added to certify a dealer technician’s knowledge on the theory and practice of mining technology at a foundational level.

The 2014 certification program resulted in the certification of 73 technicians. Future plans include the development of the certification program to include intermediate and advanced levels of installation, configuration, calibration, testing and diagnostics for technology products in the machine.

The recent certification program recognizes the dedication, passion and excellence of our dealer service technicians, in which they prepared for six to eight years to receive Caterpillar certification. The technicians made an impact on the Caterpillar team, proving that it is essential to continue providing capabilities and training that dealers require for providing the best technology service to our customers.
