Caterpillar Leaders Support Local Military Recruiting Efforts

Earlier this month, several Caterpillar leaders and employees were involved in Hiring Our Heroes, a military recruiting fair held in Peoria, Illinois. Hiring Our Heroes pairs veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses with companies seeking quality employees. This is just one of many military recruiting initiatives in which we participate. Caterpillar recruiting representatives will host a booth at 10 Hiring Our Heroes career fairs across the country this year.

“Your service and dedication is highly valued and this is just a small way to thank you,” said Group President Stu Levenick as he helped kick off the beginning of the career fair in Peoria.
Caterpillar was one of 60 employers there to talk with veterans about job openings. Also in attendance were several veteran service organizations.

“The service provided by men and women as they transition out of the military is a perfect fit for Caterpillar and other employers” said Frank Crespo, vice president and chief procurement officer of the Global Supply Network Division and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

“Companies like Caterpillar understand the value proposition of veterans. That understanding starts at the top – with their leaders” said Eric Eversole, executive director, Hiring Our Heroes, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Caterpillar’s involvement in military recruiting includes cooperative actions with our dealers, which then benefits many local communities. One example is placing collaborative advertisements in military transition assistance magazines which are viewed by more than 250,000 transitioning service members every year. And Cat® dealer Altorfer was at an adjoining booth at the Peoria Hiring Our Heroes career fair.

Kim Hauer, vice president with responsibility for the Human Services Division said of the career fair attendees, “"They've served our country. They're a wonderful resource for Caterpillar as well as others in the private sector, and I think they deserve those opportunities after serving our country.”

Caterpillar leaders and our dealers agree that the dedication, discipline and skills that veterans and military spouses bring to a job are character traits that translate well in the civilian workforce.
