After noticing how many children were roaming the streets instead of attending school, Comfort Appiah created a makeshift classroom on her front porch and invited the children to learn. There, she taught them to read, write and develop other skills they would need to become successful. In 2009, with the help of a loan from Opportunity International, she purchased a building to expand her school and help even more families in her community. Today, Ahobrase Academy employs 38 teachers and boasts 700 students from preschool to junior high.
