Just south of the Sahara, the Sahel region struggles with a lack of water. People spend hours a day bringing water home. In 2013, a number of villages in East Sahel received a system of solar-powered tap stands that now provide easy access to clean, safe water. There, people are healthier, children have time to attend school and women are able to earn money by making crafts or opening businesses. Yet, there are many more villages in West Sahel still lacking a clean water source. Women and children endure the difficult and daily process of drawing water from a deep, open well. Today, charity: water is working to help change that, bringing clean water to 100,000 people in the Sahel region.
