Suami lives with her three children in Java, an island that accounts for 57% of Indonesia's population. There, a quarter of its residents lack access to an adequate water source. For years, the river near Suami's house was her family's only source of water and sanitation. With a WaterCredit loan made possible by the Caterpillar Foundation and Water.org, she installed a safe water connection, toilet and septic tank in her home. Suami no longer has to wash her clothes and dishes in the river or buy water from city vendors for cooking. Today, she is saving more money and her family is happy and healthy.
