In 2007, the Great Rivers Partnership helped launch Water Producer, an innovative program to help protect fresh water for humanity and nature in Brazil. The Water Producer Program was first implemented in Brazil by the National Water Agency in the Piracicaba-Capivari-Jundiai watershed. This program financially compensates rural landowners who help improve water quality and quantity. They preserve and restore both forests and grasslands along streams and apply best management practices on cropland and cattle ranches.
