On the morning of January 17, 2012, Angelina Perez's four-bedroom apartment in Bushwick, New York, caught on fire. At the time, Angelina was four months pregnant with her second daughter. The destruction of their home and belongings devastated Angelina's family. The American Red Cross supported them with shoes, warm clothes and a voucher for the essentials. But most importantly, they helped her find a place to stay so she could keep her family together. "When things like this happen, I think you find a new perspective on life," Angelina says. Every nine minutes, the Red Cross helps families like Angelina's after a home fire.
