Now retired, Ken and Ann Opatz volunteer for the American Red Cross (ARC) in Gifford, Illinois. Ken and Ann work as a team, driving an emergency response vehicle and delivering meals to victims of floods, fires, tornadoes and other natural disasters. Ken was inspired to become an ARC volunteer as he helped his mother- in-law salvage her home after the Iowa floods. A team of Red Cross volunteers drove up, offered food and talked to him about a shelter where he and his family could clean up. "When I saw them," Ken says, "I thought...I want to be a part of that."
