Pete, a veteran, applied for food stamps after struggling to find work returning from duty. For a while, the stamps helped him feed his family, but in 2014, they were cut. Pete and his family turned to their local food bank. There they supplemented their small income and everyone got enough to eat. After a year and a half, things took a turn for the better. Pete found a job working security at a local college where he receives free tuition. He takes advantage of this benefit and attends nursing school, preparing for a career that is in high demand.
