Fishing Ban Restores Balance to Yangtze's Ecosystem

Assessing the health of a river and its ecosystem is key to its restoration. Fish populations in the Yangtze River have declined significantly because of overharvesting and the hydropower dams that are powering China's growing economy. With help from the Caterpillar Foundation, the Great Rivers Partnership helped persuade the Chinese government to implement fishing bans and other measures to help fish recover and the river's ecosystem return to its normal state.
