Access to Clean Water Means Safety for Women in Uganda

Every day, sisters Grace and Sarah used to have to walk to Lake Victoria to get water for their household. One evening, while Grace was making the trip alone, four men attacked her. Soon after, Grace became ill and learned she was pregnant. Taking care of her baby meant Grace would have to leave Sarah to get water alone. A few short months later, Sarah was attacked and impregnated — just like her sister. Today, thanks to charity: water and their local partner in Uganda, the women have a well in the middle of their village. Now they have safe access to clean water, their families are healthier, and they have more time for education and building their own businesses.
