Empowering Girls in Rural Guatemala

Life changed for Keyli,14, when she enrolled in Saquilaj B'e, a joint initiative of the Guatemalan government and the United Nations - supported by Girl Up. This initiative is dedicated to promoting the rights of indigenous youth, with a focus on girls, in rural areas. At Saquilaj B'e, Keyli participates in a training program where she learns about her rights as a woman and is able to express herself, speaking openly and freely about her experiences. "I've learned that I have rights and that gives me new opportunities," she says. In Guatemala, Girl Up has helped 775 girls in the Totonicapan and Huehuetenango regions.
