The diversity and commitment of our people have always been the heartbeat behind the success of our products and services - it's what enables our customers to build a better world. Our focus on people shapes the Caterpillar experience - it's how we attract and retain the best global talent.
To inspire the next generation of Caterpillar employees, we must include the entire generation - both boys and girls. Did you know that the need for qualified manufacturing professionals increases each year? By engaging with children, especially girls, early in their education, we can #pressforprogress by connecting how diverse though and an inclusive environment make innovative solutions for our customers.
While women make up approximately half of the overall labor force, only 30 percent of manufacturing roles and 20 percent of manufacturing leadership roles are held by women. The jobs today aren't your typical manufacturing jobs - these are careers in fields such as engineering, technology development, logistics and manufacturing.
When you consider our global labor force, equality for women would add up to $28 trillion to the global economy by 2025, according to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute. This is a very significant opportunity, and education and awareness can help make it a reality.
When it comes to how we educate our girls and women, we look to programs like STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). At Caterpillar, we make progress possible - and engineering, science and technology are fundamental as we build roads, bridges and infrastructure while taking on the important challenges of environmental standards and sustainability.
So how can we #PressforProgress and influence the next generation of Caterpillar? How can we continue to build a better world together? By encouraging children, especially girls, to discover and pursue their passion for science and math. Be a role model to women and girls. If you're a woman - share your story, if you're a man - show your encouragement.
On March 8, Caterpillar and the Caterpillar Women's Initiative Network encourage you to share your story, inspire the next generation and make a pledge to #PressforProgress.
