To me, International Women's Day is a reminder that all you need sometimes is encouragement from a supervisor, leader, or colleague.
After my undergraduate degree I decided to get some work experience, so I completed an internship in an HR consultancy. As it was coming to an end, I had my final feedback meeting with my supervisor. At the time, I had been with the company for 6 months and had received very positive feedback. Nonetheless, when she asked me what my strengths were, I didn't know what to say. It took me a while, until I came up with a very vague answer.
My supervisor told me: 'You need to be comfortable talking about your strengths. There are things you are good at and you should have the confidence to say so. When you try to get a job, you need to be able to show them what you bring to the company.' Her advice really helped me with applications and job interviews. To me, this was a push towards being bolder. It showed me that a short advice can go a long way and how important it is to support each other.
