How This Employee Added Value to the Enterprise Through Skill Development

Skill development comes in all forms and can expand beyond the focus of your functional area to add value to the company. Phoebe Mao identified an opportunity to create a regional group for early talent to connect, share best practices and have a little fun. By working to establish the Young Professionals (YP) Employee Resource Group (ERG) in Qingdao, China, she also improved her skills in communication and coordination, which are critical as a project management coordinator. 

Phoebe knew in order to create a regional chapter of YP, she would need to rely on support from her leadership team. To gain this support, she laid out the benefits and outlined the value-added nature of the group.  By gaining the support of her leadership, she successfully executed the launch of the Qingdao YP chapter, and has since organized many major events focused on networking and continued skill development.

Phoebe’s hard work was recognized when her chapter received the YP Outstanding New ERG Chapter Award in 2019. Currently, Phoebe serves as the global mentoring program chair where she leads a team of five people across four different regions. Phoebe shares that this opportunity has added leadership skills to her list of professional experiences.
