Caterpillar Employees are Rewriting the Rules for Digital

Caterpillar has long been known for yellow iron; however, do you know what it takes to power such heavy equipment? Employees like Rajesh Mishra, an NPI Manager at Caterpillar, are working every day to develop ground breaking digital solutions to make our machines smarter, faster and more efficient for our customers.

“When I hear from the field that the tools I worked on have simplified someone’s work and life, it gives me pride and a sense of accomplishment.”

One example of this work is when Mishra and his team worked to develop and deliver remote services which allow dealer technicians to update software and diagnose machines from their offices. Mishra said that in the past, technicians had to manually go into the field to provide maintenance, which increased possible downtime for our customers; this solution is just one example of how Caterpillar is helping our customers rewrite the rules.

“Caterpillar has always defined the rules for our industry. Now it’s different – we’re making our machines smart,” said Mishra, “We can push more dirt with less fuel and a less experienced operator, which makes us even better.”

While Mishra says many people might not think of Caterpillar a digital company, in the last few years the focus has shifted. This push to advance digitally is supported by newly hired Vice President, Ogi Redzic. His mission is to hire more workers to help Caterpillar’s vision of improving the performance of our machines through new technology.

Mishra encourages anyone thinking of entering this field to look at Caterpillar. He says what sets Caterpillar apart from other companies is the culture, where you can craft your own career.
