A Look into the UK Graduate Program

Lydia Francis shares her experience with Caterpillar’s UK graduate program. She says her first year pushed her every day to develop as a professional engineer and allowed her to apply her knowledge for continuous product improvement.

“As a Graduate Trainee you are immediately given real responsibilities within the role while still being surrounded by a support network of colleagues who are always willing to provide help and advice should you need it.”

But the real perk of the program for Lydia is the rotational aspect. She says rotating roles allows you to develop an understanding of the structure and relationship between departments while growing your network within Caterpillar and beyond. Working in Supplier Quality allowed her to travel a lot, which she says is something she never expected.

When she’s not traveling meeting with her customers, she spends time in the Desford office.

"The work environment at Desford is friendly and diverse,” says Lydia, “There’s plenty of approachable people should you have a work-related query or simply want to pop in to have coffee.”

Her team also meets outside of work. She says they have several graduate socials and regular office nights out. Lydia says it’s a great way to get to know colleagues you wouldn’t otherwise work closely with.
