7th Annual FIRST Tech Challenge encourages STEM initiatives

Young robotic experts from a variety of colleges in Tamil Nadu, India put their creations to test during the 7th Annual FIRST Tech Challenge earlier this year. Twelve teams had three months to develop and program a robot as part of this year’s theme “relic recovery.”

Guided by mentors from Caterpillar, students applied real-world math and science concepts as well as sound engineering principles to build their own bots from scratch.

As the students put their robotic creations to test, they went above and beyond technical skills by demonstrating the values of working together, sharing ideas and treating each other with respect and dignity.

With many great teams in attendance, from the team from Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), Chrompet, Chennai won the Overall Champions award.

At Caterpillar, promoting STEM is a key initiative to build the next generation engineers and build strong talent pipeline for ourselves and the industry we serve.
