Human Rights

Objective

At Caterpillar, we are committed to respecting internationally recognized human rights throughout our global operations. While this policy is uniquely our own, we considered principles described in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR) and the International Labor Organization's (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in its development.

This statement complements our five Values in Action set out in our Code of Conduct Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Commitment, and Sustainability – and aligns with the commitments and expectations in our Supplier Code of Conduct. 

Enterprise Policies apply to the Caterpillar enterprise, including subsidiaries, majority-owned joint ventures, and, following a transition period, newly acquired companies. If a Caterpillar Division believes that elements of an Enterprise Policy conflict with local law, the Division should promptly contact the Office of Business Practices.

Statement

Our commitment to respect internationally recognized human rights supports Caterpillar’s vision to create a work environment that all can take pride in, to be a company others respect and admire, and contribute to a world made better by our actions. 

Caterpillar is committed to working with our business partners to uphold the principles in this policy. We have a large and diverse supply chain and expect our suppliers to comply with the obligations set out in our Supplier Code of Conduct. In addition, we encourage our dealers and those who license Caterpillar products and services to adopt similar commitments within their businesses. 

Caterpillar's products and services advance sustainable global economic development and improve standards of living in communities where it operates. Within our business, we will support our commitment to human rights by assessing human rights issues, conducting relevant human rights training, and integrating results of due diligence into our policies and internal systems.

We will consult with relevant internal and external stakeholders to understand human rights related concerns and issues. Caterpillar will assess and escalate issues and concerns as appropriate. 

The Human Services Division (HSD) is responsible for coordinating the development, communication, implementation, and monitoring of the policy across all Caterpillar business divisions.  

We encourage our employees to report any circumstance or action that violates, or appears to violate the Code of Conduct, enterprise policy, or applicable law. To the extent you become aware of such an issue, we encourage you to report it by contacting the Office of Business Practices.

Caterpillar will not take any action against an employee as a result of raising an ethical issue in good faith. Also, Caterpillar does not tolerate any reprisal by any individual against an employee for raising a concern or making a report in good faith.
