
William (Bill) E. Finerty is a vice president of Caterpillar Inc. with administrative responsibility for the company's Americas Distribution Services Division (ADSD). This division is accountable for the company's dealer development and enterprise sales in North and South America.
Since joining Caterpillar in 1984 through the Marketing Training Program, Finerty has held numerous positions in the areas of marketing, finance and mining. From 1984 to 1988, Finerty was a marketing representative with assignments focused on dealer training and machine sales. In 1988, he transitioned to finance representative positions in Cat Financial Services. Between 1990 and 1993, Finerty assumed senior project engineering responsibility for Track Type Tractors. Then, he held administrative positions in business research and planning until 1996.
In 1996, Finerty transitioned to greater responsibility as the product/marketing manager of mining. This took him to Geneva on special assignment until 1998. Also while in Geneva, Finerty held merchandising manager accountability for building construction products.
When Finerty returned to the United States in 1998, he held a series of management positions with growing responsibility including San Francisco district manager, commercial mining manager, marketing manager and revenue manager. In 2005, Finerty was named a regional manager for ADSD and was instrumental in the growth and development of the North American Dealer organization. In January 2011, Finerty assumed his current position.
Finerty is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and holds Executive Education certificates from Bradley University and IMD (International Institute for Management Development) located in Lausanne, Switzerland.
