Caterpillar's global purchasing agents are focused on delivering global purchasing leverage with local service excellence. We manage the purchase of materials that go into more than 300 products, ranging from construction and mining equipment to diesel and natural gas engines and industrial turbines. Our employees work closely with customers around the world to ensure we meet their quality, cost and delivery objectives while also building strong relationships with our worldwide, world-class supply base.

Caterpillar’s global purchasing division purchases both direct and indirect materials for the enterprise. Direct materials are the components that allow Caterpillar to manufacture construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. Indirect material includes the products and services needed to operate the business such as office supplies/equipment, perishable tooling, facility maintenance, IT hardware/software, consulting services and capital.
