Engaging With Government
We believe that Caterpillar and our dealers deliver the best products and services in the world. However, the actions that governments take around the world can have significant impact—both positive and negative—on Caterpillar, our employees, customers, and shareholders. We think it is important for our government leaders to understand the impact of such policies. Therefore, on appropriate issues, when it is constructive under the applicable political system, we advocate in a manner consistent with all governing laws and Our Values in Action.
The form of advocacy we use may differ depending on the political system and local law. We often communicate with our employees and other stakeholders about the importance of public policy issues, and in some countries we may encourage them to express their views to lawmakers, in a manner consistent with local custom and citizenship rights. For example, we encourage our U.S. employees to take an active role when a significant issue comes to a critical vote in Congress.
Our leaders occasionally interact with government officials to advocate key positions. We also belong to associations who advocate for issues on behalf of the business community.
Where allowable, Caterpillar may also make political contributions in part of our advocacy efforts.
