Caterpillar Employees Around the World Involved in Earth Day
April 22 was Earth Day, and Caterpillar employees did their part to contribute to a more sustainable planet.
In Beijing, volunteers from Caterpillar China partnered with the China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) to kick off the "Caterpillar Forest" project. Volunteers planted 2,100 Chinese pines, poplars and other tree varieties in Yanqing on the outskirts of Beijing. The Caterpillar Forest project will also be implemented in Tianjin, Hebei and Inner Mongolia this year. The CEPF project is supported by a grant from the Caterpillar Foundation.
Caterpillar employees from the Peoria area volunteered their time to plant 1,000 trees with Living Lands and Waters, a nonprofit environmental organization. Living Lands and Waters also handed out more than 10,000 saplings to Caterpillar employees as part of its Million Trees project. Employees were encouraged to take home and plant the saplings to help re-establish native hardwood species in the area. The Caterpillar Foundation provides support for Living Lands and Waters and its river clean-up activities along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers.
