Caterpillar And Cat Dealers Provide Support To The Aftermath Of Hurricane Sandy

Caterpillar and Cat dealers are mobilizing equipment, personnel and other resources in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy to help the hardest hit areas recover. Caterpillar and the entire dealer network will continue to work with local authorities to assess the ongoing situation and determine where they can be of greatest assistance to their customers and the effected population.

Beginning October 26, more than 150 Caterpillar facilities in the United States and Canada received information related to this storm and its potential effect to our employees and facilities. Facility Emergency Response Teams took the lead, making decisions to ensure the safety of their employees and reducing the risk at their facilities.

Many employees are also working to help restore power and clean up the hard hit areas on the eastern coast of the United States. For example, portable industrial pumps powered by Industrial Power Systems Cat and Perkins diesel engines have been instrumental in 'dewatering' New York City basements, subways, train tunnels and stations. Cat Financial has put customer support plans in place to provide customer modifications and emergency funding.

First Response Team of America, supported by the Caterpillar Foundation, helped those in need during and after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast. The team was able to give power to city hall with a generator, help those in need who were effected by flooding and remove trees and debris to gain access to communities. Support from the Caterpillar Foundation helped keep equipment fueled and team members fed.

Caterpillar was able to provide a 250 kw 3 phase generator to the American Red Cross to get a disaster relief operations headquarters in New Jersey up and running. The headquarters had been running without power since Monday, October 29.
